End of Year 2017 Information

  • Thursday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m. - Cum Laude Ceremony

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
    Location: St. James-by-the-Sea Church, La Jolla
    Attendance: Junior and senior classes; parents of senior inductees only
    Attire: Full dress uniform with Bishop’s sweater as outerwear, if desired
     
    The event is followed by a brief reception at St. James. 
     
    A professional photograph of the inductees will be taken on the steps of Gilman Hall following the ceremony. Students will be asked to NOT wear their sweaters for this photo.
  • May 1-12 - Advanced Placement Exams

    Advanced Placement Exams will be administered on campus. 
  • Friday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. - Junior-Senior Prom

    Time: 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
    Location: Catamaran Resort, 3999 Mission Blvd., San Diego
    Attendance: Members of the junior and senior classes and guests
    Attire: Dress is formal
    Dinner is included in ticket price - $120/student. Students are not permitted to drive themselves to this event, so transportation must be provided.
  • Wednesday, May 24 - Senior Salute Day

    Location: The Bishop’s School
    Attendance:
     Senior class
    Attire:
     Regular uniform, or class T-shirt with regular uniform. This is not a day to wear college apparel as that is scheduled for May 25. 

    There will be a variety of activities planned for and by the seniors that will occur throughout the day including a Senior Chapel, a special reception for the seniors hosted by the Alumni Association and a lunch provided by parents. The reception will take place around 9:45 a.m. in the theatre courtyard.
  • Thursday, May 25 - College Apparel Day for Seniors

    Attire: College apparel worn with Bishop’s uniform
  • Tuesday, May 30 at 6:00 p.m. - Dinner for Parents and Guardians of Seniors

    Time: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
    Location: Ellen Browning Scripps Hall
    Attendance: Senior parents and guardians (seniors do not attend)

    The event is hosted by Head of School Aimeclaire Roche.
  • Wednesday, May 31 at 9:00 a.m. - Rehearsals for Commencement and Baccalaureate

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. 
    Location: The Bishop’s School and St. James-by-the-Sea Church, La Jolla
    Attendance: All seniors
    Attire: Appropriate casual attire, part of the rehearsal will be in church
     
    Seniors must attend these events, and they must be on time. The rehearsals include faculty and administration members as well as seniors.
  • Wednesday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m. - Changing of the Guard Ceremony and Senior Slide Show

    Time: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
    Location: Ellen Browning Scripps Hall and the Senior Rec Room
    Attendance: Junior and senior classes for Changing of the Guard Ceremony; senior class only for Senior Slide Show (this is a short student creation and is not the senior video.)
    Attire:  Girls: dressy attire. Boys: coat & tie. No exceptions.

    Dinner will be served at the Changing of the Guard. The Senior Slide Show will be in the Senior Rec Room following the ceremony.
  • Thursday, June 1 at 7:25 a.m. - Awards Day

    Time: 7:25 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
    Location: The Bishop’s School
    Attendance: ALL students; parents and families are invited
    Attire: Full dress uniform with Bishop’s sweater as outerwear, if desired
     
    Order of events:
    7:25 a.m. Advisory period; ALL students report to their advisory groups.
    8:00 a.m. Awards Day Assembly begins on the Quad.
    Seniors will process in and sit on graduation risers.
  • Thursday, June 1 at 5:00 p.m. - Baccalaureate

    Time: 4:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Location:  St. James-by-the-Sea Church, La Jolla
    Attendance: All seniors required; parents are invited, but seating is limited. The church doors open at 4:15 p.m.
    Attire: Boys: dark pants, dress shoes, dark socks, white shirt, senior tie.
    Girls: Semi-formal outfit of a dress or nice pants and shirt. Shoes can be shades of white through beige, dark brown or black.

    Order of events:
    4:15 p.m. Seniors meet in Van Schaick Room at the church to dress in graduation gowns for the Baccalaureate Service. Caps will not be worn. Church doors open for guests.
    5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Baccalaureate Service. Seniors return gowns to the Van Schaick Room after the service.

  • Friday, June 2 at 12:00 p.m. - Commencement and Reception

    Location: The Bishop’s School Quad
    Attendance: All seniors, parents and families. Reserving of seats for graduation is not permitted before 10:00 a.m.
    Attire: Boys: dark pants, dress shoes, dark socks, white shirt, senior tie.
    Girls: Semi-formal outfit of a dress or nice pants and shirt. Shoes can be shades of white through beige, dark brown or black.

    Order of events:
    11:15 a.m. Seniors meet in the gym to dress in cap and gown.
    11:40 a.m. Line up in marching order.
    12:00 p.m. March begins as rehearsed.

    After Commencement, seniors must return gowns to the athletic center.
     
    Professional video is available, which includes footage of seniors putting on their caps and gowns. 
     
    Grad Images will take photos of each graduate as they receive their diploma and awards. Additional photos of the graduate holding the diploma will also be taken. Photo proofs will be sent to senior parents.

    In the case of rain, the commencement ceremony is relocated to the Eva May Fleet Athletic Center and seating is limited. Each senior will receive four rain plan tickets to use in the case of rain. These tickets are mailed.
  • Friday, June 2 at 10:00 p.m. - Saturday, June 3 at 5:00 a.m. - Grad Night 2017

    Time: 10:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
    Attendance: Seniors only; no guests
    More details regarding the location, cost and specifics of Grad Night will be sent out in the near future.

The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for students in grades six through twelve who live throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1909, the School is affiliated with the Episcopal church.
