“Les Misérables” Plays Seven Sold-Out Shows

Bishop’s “Les Misérables School Edition” played to the audiences of seven sold-out shows. “A little fall of rain” did not discourage “Les Misérables” fans from enjoying the culmination of months of work and preparation by more than 40 Bishop’s performing arts students under the direction of Dr. Christine Micu and Ms. Donna Cory. The production featured a 10-person professional pit orchestra that included Bishop’s Assistant Musical Director Mr. Jared Jacobsen; set design by Mr. AJ Paulin, assisted by Mr. Kyle Melton; costuming by Ms. Jean Moroney, assisted by Ms. Kristin Womble and Helen Banta ’21; and Priscilla Hsieh ’19 served as stage manager.

Leading the cast were Jacob Lincoln ’19 as Jean Valjean, Jonathan Zau ’19 as Inspector Javert, Zion Dyson ’19 as Fantine, Cat Paul ’19 as Cosette, Olivia Wiese ’21 as Eponine, Alex Kuncz ’21 as Marius, Sabrina Webster ’21 as Madame Thénardier, Brett Garon ’21 as Monsieur Thénardier, Gabe Worstell ’20 as Enjolras, Marcus Buu-hoan ’24 as Gavroche, Sophia Gleeson ’24 as Young Cosette, and Lainie Beamer ’25 as Young Eponine. An ensemble of 18 performing arts students played numerous roles, and 11 crew members performed essential roles in the production.

“The cast and crew of ‘Les Misérables’ poured their collective hearts and souls into the production and it was evident at each and every show,” said Dr. Micu. “To my knowledge, ‘Les Mis’ has been one of the largest Performing Arts productions here at Bishop’s. It was an ambitious undertaking, and I could not be any prouder of all the students who worked so hard to bring this epic musical to life. I want extend my thanks to all the parents, teachers, and the community at large who came out to support the work of our students. I know it meant so much to them.”

Senior Camden Rider spoke for the cast and crew, saying, “We want to thank our fellow students and other audience members for clapping and cheering when we were dying on the barricades; our parents for supporting us throughout the run of the show and the many months leading up to it; and the parents in the Performing Arts Circle for supporting our love of the arts.”

Madison Scott ’19 thanked Bishop’s teachers “for understanding when we were sometimes a little sleepy or distracted in class as we hummed the music from our show.” She added, “We especially want to thank our performing arts teachers for their incredible leadership and giving us all this experience.”

The seven-show run, which opened with a Thursday matinee on Feb. 21 and ran the following two weekends, showcased the work of the following students:
