Bishop’s choral program has grown and developed over the past several years. Students graduate with an enjoyment of singing and often continue this art form into college and beyond. The program offers all students, regardless of their abilities, a place to belong, a place to learn and develop musically, a place to sing and perform.
In the middle school years, student opportunities include Musical Theatre 8, a class that combines music, dance and drama and Select Ensemble, a singing class that develops the singing voice and music reading skills through a Pops Night concert which is staged and choreographed and a choir festival where students are rated on their musical abilities as a group. The Middle School Singing Club is an after school singing club that meets every Monday. Students in this club participate in the annual holiday concert in December.
In upper school, men who enjoy singing can select the Knight’s Choir, and women can join The Bishop's Choir, an all women’s ensemble and advance into the BelCanto Chorus, an intermediate chorus for women. These courses prepare students for auditioning for the Bishop's Singers.
The Bishop’s Singers are an advanced level, auditioned group that sings numerous concerts in and out of school. These students usually take a trip every other year. Recent trips include NYC, where students sang at Carnegie Hall twice, San Francisco and Arizona. They also sing at the annual holiday concert. In the spring, the group sings in the annual Pops Night concert with costumes and choreography. Bishop's Singers have participated in many choral festivals, earning superior ratings since 1995.
