Bishop’s west coast vibe continues to rock the ivy-covered walls of the east. Following on the heels of Cyrus Nolan ‘15, last week’s Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week (Cornell), comes Justin Woodley ’17, whose name alone implies athletic excellence. He picked up the baton this week in a comeback overtime victory for Columbia over Penn, 34-31. Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, he garnered league honors with two key interceptions and two critical tackles to help the Lions overcome a 21-7 deficit for the victory. In a battle of the unbeaten, Columbia plays Dartmouth this Saturday, Oct. 21 in Hanover, N.H. Both teams have a 5-0 record. And don’t overlook his fellow Knight and college classmate, kickoff specialist Chris Alleyne ’15, who returned to Columbia football as a junior after a great 2016 season. He delivered 27 touchbacks out of 35 kickoffs for an impressive 77.1 percent rate. That makes 27 times the opponents can’t run the ball back for a touchdown; and forcing teams to begin their drives on the 25. Good luck in 2017.
