Results: Kevin Chen ’17 placed first for individual performances (out of 148 students). After a day of competition with 37 teams, Kevin, Rachel Hong ’17, Linette Pan ’17 and Bettina King-Smith ’17 earned the #1 seed in the elimination round. Sajan Palanki ’17, Robert Hou ’17, Samuel Fu ’17 and Hamilton Allport ’17 earned the #7 seed. Both teams were upset in the first round of elimination.
Southern California Economics Challenge Championship, April 10
Results: With over 200 teams participating in the Economics Challenge qualifier, Bishop’s had two teams qualify for the championship round, where the top five teams in Southern California competed. In the qualifier rounds, Kevin and David Wang ’18 had perfect scores. Kevin, Robert, Christian Wu ’17 and Xixi Shi ’18 advanced to what was an exciting quiz bowl round, in which they lost by a single question and took second place. David, Rachel, Linette and Naomi Kim ’18 took fourth place.
Personal Finance Challenge, April 11
Results: The top 10 teams in California included a team from Bishop's with Nicholas Midler ’17, Sajan Palanki ’17, Eamonn Jooste ’17 and Aidan Chodorow ’17. This team was in third place going into the quiz bowl round and then blew away the competition to take first place and earn a trip to Kansas City to participate in the Personal Finance National Championship on May 5.
Results: We had five teams at the first-ever SPEC. Kevin placed first for individual performances (out of 45 students). Kevin, Rachel, Linette and Bettina were the third place team. We had five juniors with us at this competition getting some experience that will serve them well next year.
The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for students in grades six through twelve who live throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1909, the School is affiliated with the Episcopal church.
