Bishop’s Team Headed to the History Bowl National Championships

On Saturday, April 8, Bishop’s students Tobey Shim '20 and Yasha Kharrati '20 made the trip up to Burbank to compete in the 2017 Los Angeles History Bee and Bowl. Despite several older competitors and the two being outnumbered 2:1 in most matches, Yasha and Tobey emerged victorious in the tournament’s History Bowl. They finished the day as the only school in Southern California with a perfect 6-0 record, and won the tournament’s finals match against Arcadia High School.
This unprecedented accomplishment qualified the pair, representing The Bishop’s School, for the 2017 National History Bowl National Championships in Arlington, Virginia. In addition, both qualified for other individual events at Arlington. Yasha qualified for the National Championships of the U.S. History Bee, and Tobey qualified for the National Championships of both the U.S. Geography Olympiad and the International Geography Bee.
Yasha and Tobey will be joined by two players, Miles McInerney '20 and Rohit Raguram '19, at the National Championships. The team is very excited to attend and match their skills against the 107 other top History Bowl teams from across the nation. They hope to continue this success in the future, as the team grows and develops.
