Bishop’s SWARM Robotics Team is Victorious in First LEGO League Tournament

Putting their creative minds to work this weekend were the members of the incredibly talented robotics group, SWARM (Ryland Birchmeier ’22, Logan Johnson ’22, Joshua Lee ’23, Nikhil Raisinghani ’22, Stanley Wei ’22 and Michael Zeng ’22). This impressive group of Bishop’s middle schoolers competed at the First LEGO League (FLL) Southern California regional tournament at East Lake Middle School in Chula Vista, where their ability to strategize, design and build as a team was put to the test. They surpassed the competition, taking home first place in robot performance and winning the qualifier champions award.
The FLL competition is made up of three parts: the robot game, the project and the core values. Team SWARM programmed an autonomous robot, with the goal to score points on a themed playing field (robot game). They also developed a solution to an identified problem (the project). And all their efforts were guided by the FLL core values.
During the robot game, SWARM placed first in the number of points accumulated. They impressed the judges with their innovative robot design, mission strategy and programming efficiency.
The project component of the competition involved finding a way to work together with animal allies. Team SWARM decided to develop an app to help people find their lost dogs.

Next up is the FLL regional competition at LEGOLAND on December 4. Best of luck, team SWARM!
