In February, we shared Bishop’s students’ results from the regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Of the seven Gold Key winners whose work advanced to the national level for review, Alexandra Midler ’22 received a National Silver Medal for exceptional work in the personal essay and memoir category.
“More than 80,000 students submitted nearly 230,000 works of art and writing to the 2021 Scholastic Awards. Your work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision,” according to the announcement from the organization. It goes on to say that only 2,000 of the works submitted received a national medal, putting Alexandra’s work in the top 1% of all submissions.
Come June 2021, her piece will appear in Scholastic’s online gallery; her name will also be listed in the companion yearbook publication to the 2021 edition of The Best Teen Writing anthology that will feature a selection of work by national medalists.
