Bishop’s Singers Demonstrate Beautiful Resilience

Who knew that a masked, physically distanced rehearsal in a parking garage could sound so good?! Watch and listen to this video to experience for yourself!

Dr. Christine Micu directs the choirs and says, “I wanted to share a little food for the soul with you. Working through COVID has been challenging for us all. Now that we are on the cusp of being vaccinated, and things seem to be getting better, this seemed like a very hopeful, beautiful, moment for us. This is a short piece from a Bishop's Singers rehearsal. It's not perfect—we’re still working—but even with cars going by, the singers created some magic. I hope you take a moment for yourself to enjoy. (Listening with headphones is even better.)”

The song “Muusika” by Part Uusberg, is sung in Estonian. The translation of Juhan Liiv’s poem in English:

Somewhere the original harmony must exist,
hidden somewhere in the vast wilds.
In Earth's mighty firmament,
in the far reaches of swirling galaxies,
in sunshine,
in a little flower, in the song of a forest,
in the music of a mother's voice,
or in teardrops—
somewhere immortality endures,
and the original harmony will be found.
How else could it have formed in human hearts—
music?
