Bishop's Valentines: Vickie Murphy '96 and Phil Barret '94
Did you know there are more than 90 Bishop's alumni married to fellow alumni? That's a lot of love! For the week leading up to Valentine's Day, we'll be featuring some of those couples and highlighting the love that was ignited because of Bishop's.
Are you a Bishop's couple? We invite you to share your love story with us in this online questionnaire.
Vickie Murphy '96 and Phil Barret '94
What are you up to now? We currently live in Jackson, Wyoming. We have three boys: Brugmann (11), George (9) and Teddy (7). Phil works in investment management and Vickie is a writer and community volunteer.
Tell us your love story! We dated during Phil's senior year when Vickie was a sophomore, and went to prom together. "Under the Stars" was the theme and it was on a boat in Mission Bay. When Phil graduated to attend Washington & Lee, the relationship fizzled out (okay, he fizzled it out), but we kept in touch and saw each other over holiday breaks. We reunited while working in New York City in our early 20s.
How did Bishop’s impact your relationship? Vickie often reminds Phil that he was a jerk in high school.
What advice do you have for other Bishop’s couples? Who you marry is your most important life decision.
