Bishop’s Hires New Athletic Director

Paula Conway has been hired as The Bishop’s School’s director of athletics. Paula will join Bishop’s from La Jolla High School where she has served as athletic director since 2013. During Paula’s tenure at La Jolla High she was named 2015 CSADA Rookie Athletic Director of the Year and led the Vikings to 28 City Conference and 17 CIF Championships.

Prior to La Jolla High School, Paula coached collegiate field hockey at Georgetown University, Kent State University and Boston College, where she earned her master’s degree in leadership and administration. Paula also previously served as Olympic development director managing Olympic pipeline athlete development for USA Field Hockey.

Paula’s love and passion for secondary school athletics began with her own successful high school career in Ottawa Hills, Ohio. She was named High School Field Hockey All-American winning back-to-back state championships her junior and senior years. Paula placed seventh in the 100-meter dash at the state track meet and enjoyed an illustrious high school basketball career. As a three-sport athlete, Paula is inducted into the Toledo Area Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.

"Paula rose to the top in a search that drew outstanding candidates from across the country,” says Head of School Ron Kim. “We were so impressed by her leadership and accomplishments. She has managed everything from major projects to the small details that enable each athlete to compete and succeed. A change agent and a ‘doer,’ Paula will make a big impact on the experience of our student-athletes."

Paula is energized to lead Bishop’s Athletics and shares, “Throughout the years, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many of the coaches on the Bishop’s staff, and I’m very excited to work closely with them and build an exceptional program for our student-athletes, one that our entire Bishop’s community can be really proud of.”
Paula graduated from Providence College with a bachelor’s in education. A Division I All- American field hockey standout, Paula was named Big East Conference Rookie of the Year her freshman year and Big East Player of the Year her senior year. As team captain, Paula was selected as Providence College Athlete of the Year her senior year and was a three-time Big East Conference first team player.

An avid runner, Paula enjoys beach runs, golfing and spending time with her friends and family, especially her two young “assistant athletic director” children.
