Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 was the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948). Bishop's Global Education Initiative celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday in a variety of ways. Dr. David Moseley, Director of Global Education, spoke briefly in chapels about the lasting influence of Gandhi's methods of nonviolent resistance to injustice and oppression, especially the impact they had on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights movement in the United States. Indian parents and library staff contributed to a small exhibit of books and artifacts about Gandhi, including a display about Mani Bhavan, Gandhi's house in Mumbai, that Bishop's students visited on the India Trip during Spring Break 2019, where they also got to see the original copy of the entries in the Visitors Book written by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Finally, there were Indian sweets to share at lunch last Wednesday, which is a Birthday tradition in India. Happy 150th Birthday, Mahatma!
