What do you love most about teaching?
Helping students make connections between the instruments they play and the music they listen to; working with them to find a unique musical voice regardless of experience level. 
Who is your hero/mentor?
Bob Mintzer, my instructor and mentor in graduate school. He's a legend - a world-class composer, innovator, performer and improviser.
What’s on your bucket list?
Running my first marathon.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Being a dad
If you could travel in time, what time period would you visit and why?
18th century Köthen, Germany to hear and study with JS Bach, and Cremona, Italy to meet violin makers Stradivari and Guarneri
If you had to sing karaoke, which song would you choose?
"Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Musicians "noodling" (playing out of turn) during rehearsal.
What’s the last book you read?
"Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer
Who was your favorite teacher in school and why?
Bert Ligon - influenced my direction in music more than anyone I've worked with.
