The 2019 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) took place April 26-28 at Idyllwild Pines. Elise Thuresson ’20 was selected to participate and recently shared remarks about her experience at the La Jolla Rotary luncheon.
RYLA is an intensive training and experiential program in youth leadership offered by the Rotary. Elise was one of 180 high school juniors from around the San Diego region who had the opportunity to participate in a three-day, all-expenses paid camp. According to their website, the camp brings together “talented young people from communities throughout the district. RYLA provides a memorable opportunity to learn, grow, have fun, make new friends and gain a new focus.” Participants are chosen for their “proven or potential leadership abilities.”
In sharing her experience at the local luncheon, Elise described a memorable and moving moment being the opportunity to participate in a live Face Time session with young girls in the Middle East.
The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for students in grades six through twelve who live throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1909, the School is affiliated with the Episcopal church.
