Sophomore Jeffrey Wang Mentors Middle School Math League
Jeffrey Wang ’21 has transitioned his passion into a mentorship role. On March 30, he led the Math League of Pacific Trails Middle School—his alma mater—to a second-place finish in the statewide MATHCOUNTS competition at California Baptist University.
While attending Pacific Trails, Jeffrey fell in love with mathematics and represented the school in several local and regional competitions. Now, he serves as president of the Math League for more than 100 members from his former school. In this role, Jeffrey mentors, supports and teaches team members.
This year, Pacific Trails faced 29 schools in the San Diego regional competition and finished third, qualifying for state rounds. One month later in the state rounds, Jeffrey’s team took second place against 32 other teams. In addition, one of the team members finished runner-up in the final individual round.
“This year, I had coaches from other schools in the state round asking about our school,” he said. “We had just come out of nowhere and taken second place, and now others were curious.”
The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for students in grades six through twelve who live throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1909, the School is affiliated with the Episcopal church.
