Girls' Cross Country Races to 11th in State Meet

At the CIF State Division V Cross Country meet in Fresno on Nov. 24, Bishop's girls’ team of Maddie Cayer '20, Christie Linnard '20, Alexandra Midler '22, Maddie Cramer '22, Sophia Scott '21 and May McConkey '21 finished 11th overall out of 25 teams. This ties the best finish that Bishop's has ever had in the girls' state meet.

In addition to the girls' team, Max Kilman '19 finished 59th out of 217 runners with a 17:26.7 time, averaging 5:36.5 per mile.

Maddie Cramer ran a smart race, working her way steadily through the crowded field of runners on the dirt course, finishing 15th (19:35.9) out of 203 competitors. Christie took a respectable 62nd place (20:47.6), with her notorious sprint to the finish kick that allowed her to gain places.

The Knights advanced to the State Meet after a strong showing at the CIF-San Diego Section meet. The team was led by Max, who finished eighth (17.04.5) and earned an invitation to the state meet. Tristan Upton ’21 (17.37.3) crossed the finish line 17th (in a field of 145 runners), helping the boys' team place fifth out of the 20 schools in the race. Wesley Bian ’20, James Frerichs ’22 and Stanley Wei ’22, Miggy Gaspar ’20 and Ben Chen ’20 contributed to the team score of 187.
For the girls, Maddie tore things up, finishing third by less than a tenth of a second at 19.10.1. Close behind was Christie (20.38.7), who took seventh out of 113 runners. Alexandra and Maddie Cayer finished 17 and 18 respectively (22:08.2, 22:24.5). Rounding out the team score of 67 - good for second place and a trip to the State CIF Meet - were sophomores May McConkey (27th, 23:15) and Sophia Scott (37th, 24:02.4).
Way to go, Knights!
