Helping Children in Need

This fall, students in grades 10 – 12 are making no-sew fleece blankets during enrichments for orphaned children in Haiti and Tanzania, and for children separated from their parents at the border.
Each advisory will make two blankets and write a card for the recipients. Children Helping Children International (CHCI) will donate the blankets to children at Casa Cornelia in San Diego, Shepherd’s House Orphanage in Haiti and Children’s Community Center in Tanzania.
Children Helping Children International (CHCI) was founded in 2009 by Tatiana Zunshine, a former dissident and human rights activist born and raised in the former Soviet Union. Headquartered in San Diego, Calif., CHCI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to involve American children in helping underprivileged children around the world. Their mission:
  • educate American children about the plight of children worldwide, orphaned by wars, disease and poor economic conditions
  • enrich the lives of American children by involving them in helping underprivileged children around the world
  • provide humanitarian help to orphaned children worldwide by supplying them with fleece blankets, handmade by American children, as a part of their international "Blankids" campaign
  • create an awareness among orphaned children that they are not alone; that there are other children in the world who care about them; and that their American peers will not forget them
