Although the gift was undesignated by Miss Wernham in her will, Bishop’s established the chair in her memory, honoring her service as an elementary school teacher in Pacific Beach and Sunday school teacher at St. James-by-the-Sea. The Bishop’s School is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory day school for students in grades six through twelve who live throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1909, the School is affiliated with the Episcopal church.
