Bishop’s dance program is a stunning aspect of our School’s culture. The program offers all students the opportunity to dance in a supportive, challenging and enriching environment. Whatever the artistic level of a student, beginner through pre-professional, there is a place for them in our program.

Every class has the opportunity to perform at the end of each semester. Students are encouraged to audition their own choreographic works. Two major dance concerts occur each year. These concerts showcase the choreography of the advanced students, the program faculty and various guest artists.

Bishop’s instrumental ensembles are open to all Bishop’s students. The curriculum emphasizes musical and technical development and includes elements of music history, theory, composition and improvisation. We offer jazz bands, orchestra music and a pop/rock band. All classes are featured in one formal concert per semester in the Taylor Performing Arts Center, with additional performance opportunities – both on and off campus – throughout the year.

A variety of theater courses in both performance and technical theater are offered. Acting Workshop, the most advanced theater performance class, gives students a more in-depth exploration of theater arts. Its technical theater/design counterpart is Advanced Theater Production. Co-curricular plays are produced throughout the year, with auditions open to all grades. An upper school musical is produced every other year.

In choral music a variety of choirs are available. In addition, choral students may choose to audition for the SCVA Region Honor Choir and California All-State Honor Choir each year. The Bishop's Singers and Bel Canto have participated in choral festivals around the country.

Technical Theater provides a fully immersive experience for students beginning in seventh grade. Students technically support Bishop’s productions, both curricular and extracurricular, choosing to focus on scenic, lighting, costuming, sound, stage management and makeup design.

The courses offered for students interested in carpentry, lighting, painting, sound and stage management are Seventh Grade Arts Rotation, Musical Theater 8 Tech, Technical Theater 8, Theater Design and Production 1 & 2, and Advanced Theater Production (ATP). For students who are interested in Costume Design and Fabrication, the courses offered are Seventh Grade Rotation, Costume Design 1 & 2, and Advanced Theater Production.
