  • Ceramics

At Bishop’s make pieces with intent, whether it is for personal expression or to enhance something mundane.

Introductory level classes foster a basic understanding of ceramic materials with a hands-on approach. Students learn clay construction techniques that utilize handbuilding, molds and the potter’s wheel.

Intermediate and advanced classes build on this foundation and allow students to perfect techniques and develop a more individual approach to ceramics.
  • Photography

Photography courses at Bishop’s introduce students to the creative world of photography and remind them that there is more to photography than simply pushing a button.

The foundation course uses black and white film to acquaint the students with the basic camera controls. Students learn film processing and printing techniques while exploring photography as an art form.

Intermediate and advanced level classes expand the student’s knowledge base of photography as they learn to express their creative ideas with bold visual images. Digital imaging is introduced and expanded upon and the use of the Adobe Creative Suite allows students to strengthen and manipulate their images.
  • Stained Glass

In this course, students transform a pencil drawing into a brilliant stained glass piece. Intermediate projects branch from two-dimensional work to three-dimensional sculptures. Although this course allows for functioning craft art, it also supports students who are interested in incorporating glass media into their fine art portfolio.
  • Studio Arts

The foundation courses offer training in the fundamental concepts of drawing, painting and two-dimensional design. Guided lessons provide structure in developing artistic practice and the ability to draw. Within these classes students are asked to think about their relationship to art and to connect to their work both intellectually and personally.

The intermediate courses allow students both creative freedom as well as the support to develop their own expression in visual art. Students create their personal artistic goals and discover ways to achieve them. Collaboration, innovation and experimentation are key concepts in these courses.
  • Time-Based Digital Media

The time based digital media courses at Bishop’s introduce students to the use of video, computer graphics, animation and film.

Through the use of ipads, digital cameras, electronics and Adobe software students have the opportunity to create video works and interactive projects that showcase programming, animation, film editing techniques and claymation.
