Theater at Bishop's

Middle School

The middle school theater emphasis is on the students’ creative explorations. Students especially interested in drama can supplement their class theater studies with participation in the after-school drama program.

Upper School

The upper school theater program has a three-fold mission:

Advanced students with career interest in performance have the opportunity for further study in a conservatory program at the college level. See the Acting Workshop and Advanced Theater Production course descriptions for more information on this part of the program. A variety of semester classes offer the opportunity for creative explorations in theater. Auditions and rehearsals for our main stage season are open to the entire upper school.

Smaller productions, with greater flexibility in schedule demands, are part of our season as well, allowing busy students the chance to experience theater. Bishop’s is part of the National Comedy Sports High School Improvisation League; any interested student with time to rehearse for 45 minutes a week can join the Improvisation Team.

Our third mission is to provide our School audience with a wide range of theatrical experiences. Over a four-year cycle, this includes: two musicals, two Shakespearean productions, comedy sports and a variety of plays ranging from classic to contemporary, comedy to drama, standard repertoire to new plays premiering at our School. Performances happen both in the evening and during the school day as part of the all-school enrichment program.
