Mrs. Mattox organizes SAGE Tutors across disciplines. SAGE (Students As Grassroots Educators) is a peer tutoring organization started by Bishop’s students from the Class of 2013. The program now includes more than 30 tutors, upper school students who assist their peers in a wide range of subjects. Some tutors are specially trained as writing coaches who are available to help with any part of the writing process in any discipline. SAGE tutoring is designed to supplement time with a student’s teachers, not to replace it.
The goals of the SAGE tutoring program are to:
- Promote and support active and independent learning
- Develop a positive approach to learning
- Aid in developing a student’s competence and/or confidence in a particular subject
Writing coaches are available through SAGE Tutoring to all Bishop's students. This service is included in Bishop's tuition. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are currently offering all of our tutoring appointments through Zoom. To make an appointment with a SAGE tutor, please visit
