Welcome to The Bishop’s School. I am fortunate to be the head of a school with a long tradition of preparing young people to succeed, to live with meaning and purpose and to make a difference in their communities.
Last spring, I asked the seniors what they appreciated most about their Bishop's experience. They said they came here because of the academics, but they left thinking that what made it special is that everyone here cared so much about them.
At Bishop's, I see highly engaged students, serious about academics but also enjoying the learning process with their friends and caring teachers guiding them. I see trust and respect between adults and students – in the classroom and chapel, during sporting events and theater performances and in the innumerable interactions that happen throughout the day. We all learn the most in a place that is dedicated to students seeking to reach their full potential, and in a place that is caring and supportive of the child’s whole self.
Bishop’s is a school that embraces the Episcopal value of inclusion. When you are a student here you will feel part of the community. It is that sense of belonging that will inspire in you the confidence to try new things, to grow in ways that you had not anticipated and to aspire for more than you had previously imagined. This is an exciting time of your life to discover who you are and what you value. As a graduating senior wrote, this “is a surprisingly small window of time, and you want to make the most of it.”
We seek always to meet the highest aspirations of Ellen Browning Scripps when she founded the School over a century ago. “Look upward, not downward. Look outward, not inward. Look forward, not backward,” and finally “lend a hand.”
Thank you for visiting. I hope to see you soon.
