Strength & Conditioning
The Strength & Conditioning Program at Bishop’s aims to help the students, faculty and staff improve their overall athleticism and health. Performance classes are offered all three trimesters during the school day and after school. A series of functional exercises, speed training, and conditioning drills are matched together to emphasize strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and endurance, benefiting all participants regardless of their sport or activity. The program also emphasizes balance, stability, coordination, reaction time, and explosive power. Students may receive PE credit for participating in these classes or may chose to do so without obtaining credit. All progress is tracked through a series of tests that each student completes when they first enter the program and continue doing until they graduate. The classes meet in the Coleman Family Health and Fitness Center and on Hunte Fields at the Fowler Athletic Complex. The Center provides state of the art equipment to train students safely and efficiently, while Hunte Fields features new sport turf, an extremely effective training surface.
Many of the athletic teams at the school also participate in the program during their seasons in order to keep a competitive edge over their opponents as well as reduce their chances of getting injured. For questions regarding the Strength & Conditioning Program please contact Charles Johnson, Director of Performance — Strength & Conditioning Coach.
The Knights Strength & Agility Clinic is designed to help student athletes in grades 8-12 improve their strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and endurance. The program consists of a series of functional exercises, which helps improve balance, coordination, reaction time, explosiveness, and stability, combined with resistance and speed training to benefit all athletes regardless of their sport. The Adult Performance Training (APT) program is designed to help adults improve their overall athleticism and health. A series of functional exercises, core training, and conditioning drills are matched together to emphasize strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and endurance, benefiting all adults regardless of their level of ability. The program also emphasizes balance, stability, coordination, reaction time, and explosive power. This progressive system allows each adult adequate time to increase his/her performance for recreational sport or every day activities.
Sessions will meet for 1.5 hours per day, two days per week, in the Coleman Family Health and Fitness Center and on Hunte Fields at the Fowler Athletic Complex (all of which are on Bishop’s campus). The Center provides state of the art equipment to train adults safely and efficiently, while Hunte Fields features sport turf, an extremely effective training surface. Charles is excited to introduce this dynamic program to any adult, regardless of past experience or current
ability, who is willing to be challenged and who wants to make a drastic change to their overall health and ability! Download the enrollment form >
