The College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exams are given at Bishop's during May on the national test dates. Most students who complete an AP course also take the AP exam though it is not a requirement of the School. Because many colleges will grant credit to students who earn high scores on the AP Exams, and because strong scores may aid students in the admission process, it is recommended that students take them. Students who feel that they are prepared may also take an AP exam even when they have not been enrolled in the corresponding course. View AP Exam schedules >
20101 Timeline
February 1
AP teachers submit to the AP Coordinator lists of students who plan to take AP Exams. Students not in AP classes who wish to take exams should give their names to the AP Coordinator.
March 1
Students receive and sign confirmation of exams to be taken.
March 15
Students are billed for their exams through their student account.
April
Registration for exams takes place during enrichment periods.
Early May
AP Exams are administered at Bishop’s. See the schedule below.
Mid-July
Scores are mailed to students’ homes and to the School.
Policies & Procedures
- Fees for the exams are billed at the end of March and must be paid before a student can take an exam.
- If students decide not to take exams that have been ordered for them, they must tell the coordinator by 7:30 a.m. on the day of the exam and the School will credit to their account the exam fee minus the processing fee charged by College Board.
- The day of an AP Exam, students must be at the exam site on time for the exam and in uniform.
- Students should bring into each exam: several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers, two blue or black ball point pens, and for the Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics exams, a calculator (one without a keyboard or printing tape) with extra batteries.
- Students are not allowed to bring anything else into the exam room, including cell phones, MP3 Players, or watches that beep or make noise. No food or drink except water is allowed into the exam room.
- Students who are approved by the College Board for extended time or other accommodations will receive those accommodations on AP Exams. All extended time exams will be held in a separate location.
- With few exceptions, all exams will be held in St. James Hall which is located at 7776 Eads Avenue, across the street from St. James Episcopal Church. Students should report directly to St. James Hall a few minutes before the time each exam is scheduled to begin. Students will be informed well in advance of any changes.
- Inquiries should be directed to Jessica Mercado, AP coordinator, 858.459.4021 x 276 or email mercadoj@bishops.com.
