Admissions Overview
Bishop's seeks students in grades sixth through twelve who will contribute to the diversity of the School's community through their academic potential and achievements, creative talents, character, athletic abilities, and general involvement in Bishop's co-curricular activities.
The whole child emphasis of the middle school program (grades 6-8) is based on building study and thinking skills, taking responsibility for one’s own education, and developing self-confidence and a sense of moral responsibility.
The upper school (grades 9-12) curriculum is designed to train students to think critically, speak and write clearly and powerfully, and to bring their growing knowledge and skills to bear on problem solving across all disciplines.
The admissions process is designed to identify students who have intellectual curiosity and ability and/or the potential to meet the demands of a college preparatory program, as well as unique talents and qualities, admirable character, and enthusiasm for contributing to the School community.
In addition to these characteristics, admissions decisions are based on a student's application for admission, personal interview, previous academic background, results from the Independent School Entrance Examination, and recommendations from current teachers and school administrator. Admission to The Bishop's School is a competitive process and, in addition to the aforementioned qualities, students are evaluated in relationship to the pool of students who are applying.
An Open House and an Admissions Information Coffee are opportunities for prospective families to meet faculty, current parents and students, and ask questions of school and admissions staff members.
